About Tenebrae
The service of Tenebrae, meaning “darkness” or “shadows,” has been practiced by the church since medieval times. Once a service for the monastic community, Tenebrae later came to be an important part of the worship of the medieval common folk during Holy Week. Today we join Christians of many generations and from around the world using the liturgy of Tenebrae.
Interactive Tenebrae Readings
Our Spiritual Formation Ministry has designed interactive Tebebrae Readings that may be experienced anywhere. Should you be unable to join us Friday night, please download the audio recording of the readings here. You may deepen your experience by lighting eight candles, pausing the audio after each reading to extinguish a candle, leaving you in darkness at the end of the readings.
