About Tenebrae

The service of Tenebrae, meaning “darkness” or “shadows,” has been practiced by the church since medieval times. Once a service for the monastic community, Tenebrae later came to be an important part of the worship of the medieval common folk during Holy Week. Today we join Christians of many generations and from around the world using the liturgy of Tenebrae.

Stations of the Cross

7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., SMPC Campus

This service honors the ancient story of Jesus’ death while recognizing the way this narrative repeats itself again and again throughout the past and present. It provides multisensory ways to engage, confession, and lament. You may come anytime between 7:00 p.m. and 8 p.m. to walk the stations of the cross.
