Common Ground

For all ages and abilities.

SMPC provides families and individuals with special needs within our church and local community a welcoming place to gather, connect and grow their faith by offering a monthly worship service to begin in the fall called Common Ground.

Faith Practice

ALL ages gather in circles in Mecklenburg Hall to practice creative ways to dig into the Bible, practice talking about our faith with one another, and practice ways we can continue learning about our faith throughout the week while implementing the Faith Five approach.

Our 3- and 4-year-olds gather in Mecklenburg Hall, but once our gathering time is over, they head to a separate room with two adults for the remainder of the hour to experience the story tailored just for them.  They will also enjoy participation in the Cherub Choir during this time.

Grandparent Camp

9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

 

Grandparent camp is for children ages 5+ and their grandparents.

 

If you would like to stand in as a grandparent, or if you'd like to adopt a grandparent for camp, please contact Rebecca Guzman, Director of Spiritual Formation.

Scouting

SMPC is home to some of the strongest Scouting programs in North Carolina. Opportunities are available for young people of all ages, from kindergarten (Daisy Girl Scouts) or 1st grade (Tiger Cub Scouts) to age 18.

Acolytes light the candles at the beginning of worship. At the end, they take them out.  Ages 6 and up.

Ages 4th-12th grades are invited to lead the congregation in the call to worship on the first Sunday of the month and the Prayer of Dedication on the second Sunday of the month.

Parents who serve as greeters are encouraged to invite their children to greet with them.

Our Greeters are often the first point of contact for those attending our worship services and special events.  Friendly faces are always welcome to serve!

Parents who usher are welcomed and encouraged to mentor their children to usher along with them.

 

In addition, On the last Sunday of the month, youth and children 3rd grade and up are specifically are invited to collect the “Spoon it Up” offering to benefit the men’s shelter.
