Click here for the Spring 2010 Middle School calendar. 5:30-6:30 Middle School youth group Youth Ministries at South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church The youth ministry of SMPC leads Middle School and High School-aged youth to embrace their identity as children of God, to establish and strengthen their relationship with God and the Church, and to equip and challenge them to live as disciples of Jesus Christ. We do this through a variety of ways, both big and small. Through Sunday School classes that focus both on learning about the Bible and applying it to our daily lives to youth groups that focus on connecting us together and joyfully responding to God's love and grace in a fun way and through attending worship together with our families, as well as leading the congregation in worship on Sundays. We also serve our local community through projects such as CROPwalk, Center of Hope Christmas stockings, serving at the Crisis Assistance Ministries, and Second Harvest Food Bank. Our Summer Trip is an opportunity to explore and grow in our faith, by attending the Massanetta Springs Middle School Conference .Come join us!! * Youth Group * Sunday nights, 5:30-6:30pm Middle School Youth Group for young people in grades 6-8 meets weekly in our Fellowship Hall. Our time together is focused on building a sense of community as we explore different aspects of our faith. This is a time of fellowship, service, and worship. We always have a lot of fun playing games and growing in faith together! Some of the highlights of our year include going bowling at Sports Connection, our annual Christmas Service Project Lock-in, Retreats, and the 30 Hour Famine. * Sunday School * Sunday mornings, 9:30-10:30am 6th and 7th Grade: I Know the Bible! The 6th and 7th grades focus on a more traditional Bible study in this 2-year curriculum. Each lesson begins with background information on the passages for the day (bios of characters, information about words or vocabulary, historical information or geographical information), followed by reading and studying the selected passages. There is Q&A opportunity and activities to reinforce the learning (art, acting, singing, writing,etc.). At the end of each unit, there is a "game day" to provide fun and review. Students participate in fun activities such as Bible Tic Tac Toe, Who Wants to be a Bible Millionaire?, Bible Pictionary, etc. 6th Grade: New Testament 7th Grade: Old Testament 8th Grade: Confirmation Confirmation is an exciting adventure in the journey of faith. Our program culminates in joining the church, but also sparks lots of interesting questions and hopefully offers some answers about who God is, who we are in relation to God, why we are here, and where we are going. We are using the PC(USA) curriculum Professing Our Faith. We will cover topics such as belonging to God, prayer, what it means to be Presbyterian, the sacraments, Jesus Christ, and Christian vocation, among others. Confirmands also meet monthly with a mentor whom they choose from our church family. They also complete a community service project, attend a church committee meeting, write their own Statement of Faith and meet with the Session before becoming a full member of the church on Confirmation Sunday. *Summer Trip* Massanetta Middle School Youth Conference Every summer, middle school youth who have completed 6th-8th grades pile in the car to make the long, but amusing drive up to Massanetta Springs, VA to join other young Presbyterians from all over the country for this exciting conference! We spend time in small groups making new friends, worshiping together in Hudson Auditorium, and learning more about who Jesus Christ calls us to be.
