We do this through a variety of ways, both big and small. Through Sunday School classes that focus both on learning about the Bible and applying it to our daily lives to youth groups that focus on connecting us together and joyfully responding to God's love and grace in a fun way and through attending worship together with our families, as well as leading the congregation in worship on Sundays. We also serve our local community through projects such as CROPwalk, Center of Hope Christmas stockings, serving at the Crisis Assistance Ministries, and Second Harvest Food Bank. Summer Trips are an opportunity to explore and grow in our faith, whether through the High School Mission trip or by attending the Montreat Youth Conference. * Youth Group * Sunday nights, 6:00-7:15pm High School Youth Group for youth in grades 9-12 meets weekly out in the Cottages. We begin with some hang out time in the game room and move into a discussion of topics where our faith and our lives intersect. We enjoy growing closer to one another as we grow closer to God. Some of the highlights of our year include our annual Beach Retreat, Halloween Lock-in, Ski Trip, Retreats, and the 30 Hour Famine. * Sunday School * Sunday mornings, 9:30-10:30am Senior High This year in Senior High Sunday School, we are focusing on "Choices" using the Way to Live curriculum. High School students face many difficult choices on a daily basis. Many times it is difficult to figure out how to make the best decision, particularly in light of our Christian faith. Together, we will explore how our faith gives us guidance as we face these challenges. *Summer Trips* Montreat High School Youth Conference http://montreat.org/current/2009-youth-conferences-at-montreat Our trip to Montreat is a much-anticipated SMPC tradition!! We spend the week worshiping and fellowshipping with a thousand other Presbyterians from all over the country! Our faith is challenged and encouraged by uplifting keynotes and worship services, and we stay awake with all those crazy energizers. In small group, we make lots of new friends and explore what it means to live out our faith. And we end the night in our back home groups, growing closer to our SMPC friends. Dates: July 18-24 HighSchool Mission Trip Click here to read reflections of the summer 2009 mission trip. Country roads, take me home! This year we are going to West Virginia!! We will be working with the Presbytery of West Virginia to serve our neighbors in Colcord, West Virginia. A city that has fallen victim to the decline of the coal industry, much of the population is below the poverty line and living on government support. We will spend the week discovering the area and serving our neighbors by doing home repair. In the process, we will learn what live is like for the people of Colcord, and our own lives will be transformed in the process.
