Our New Piano for the
Betty Allen Choir Room is Dedicated!
On
January 11th, a dedication ceremony was conducted for
the new piano in our choir room. Matt Brown led the choir
in a meaningful dedication ceremony for this wonderful
instrument. Following are excerpts from that service.
It was
the duty of the trumpeters and singers to make themselves heard
in unison in praise and thanksgiving to the Lord, and when the
song was raised, with trumpets and cymbals and other musical
instruments, in praise to the Lord, "For he is good, for
his steadfast love endures forever," the house, the house of the
Lord, was filled with a cloud, so that the priests could not
stand to minister because of the cloud; for the glory of the
Lord filled the house of God.
(2
Chronicles 5: 13-14)
“It is so
often in music, through music that the Spirit ushers us into an
experience of the glory of God. Thus, the ministry of music and
the witness of the choir is vital to the ongoing life of the
community of faith. Our faith is enriched each week as
voices are raised and God is praised and the Word of God is
proclaimed in word and music. The care and preparation we
bring to the ministry of music are an important part of our
effort to create an environment where grace may do its work.
It is with
excitement that we look forward to the day those first notes of
music filter out the doorway of the new Betty Allen Choir room.
Yet, we know that sound would be, if not muffled, at least
diminished were there no instrument to accompany the voices.
Knowing that
we stretched ourselves to be able to pursue the choir wing,
knowing that it takes much more than an outer structure to
constitute a music program, a most gracious and faithful family
stepped forward with a generous gift that made possible the
purchase of a wonderful instrument for the music program.
Tonight, we
dedicate this piano to the glory of God with thanksgiving for the
opportunity to sing God’s praise.”
