Children are a vital part of our congregation at SMPC.

We love the wonder and energy they bring to our common life, and we take seriously our promise to love and nurture them in faith.

Above all, we want our children to develop life-giving relationships with God and one another and for the church to be a place where they can explore, ask questions, and know that they are safe and cared for.

Children's Worship

During the worship service, children ages 4-3rdgrade are invited forward to leave for Children’s Worship, which is held in our chapel.

During children’s worship, the children will hear the same Scripture passages as the congregation in the sanctuary, and they will engage with the Bible in ways that are developmentally appropriate.

This includes stories, games, art, and music.

Nursery

SMPC loves little ones!

We strive to ensure that families are comfortable having their infants and young children in worship with them, or dropping them off in the nursery. In either setting, your children will be welcomed and loved.

The nursery at SMPC is staffed by experienced, background-checked, trained childcare professionals.

We have one room for babies and another for toddlers, 2s, and 3s.

We use a three-part sticker system for safety and communication.

Bible and Music (BAM)

Twice a month, elementary-age children gather on Sunday evening at 5 pm for Bible and Music (BAM).

During BAM, children will sing, creatively engage with Bible stories, and explore various instruments in peer age groups. They will occasionally sing, play instruments, or display their creations during Sunday worship. We end with a pizza dinner and free play time.

BAM is a great way for children to form friendships with other kids at church.

Children Leading in Worship

Children are a vital part of worship leadership at SMPC.

We believe children should be seen AND heard! Every Sunday, children serve as acolytes, ushers, and greeters.

Most Sundays, a child also serves as a liturgist who leads the congregation in the Call to Worship or Prayer of Dedication.

Vacation Bible School

Each summer, every space in the church is filled with children’s voices and excitement for a week of Vacation Bible School.

Children ages 3-4th grade engage in a themed program that teaches the Bible through play, science, art, and music.

Our rising 5th and 6th graders participate in Mission Possible, where they do team-building exercises and visit and serve organizations all over the Charlotte Metro area.

VBS 2024 is Monday, July 22- Thursday, July 25, and our theme is Camp Firelight! Register here

Mission Possible

Mission Possible allows 5th and 6th graders to get out in the community and serve others!

Our Mission Possible program is for rising 5th and 6th graders and runs concurrently with Vacation Bible School. Mission Possible participants serve various organizations around Charlotte and take field trips off campus that allow them to experience firsthand the various needs in our community.  This is also a great opportunity for team building, and it helps them transition from Children’s Ministry to Youth Group in 6th grade.

Mission Possible 2024 is Monday, July 22- Thursday, July 25. Register here

Scouting
