SMPC
Mission Committe sends a load of Love ....

On January 30th our Missions Committee and the members of SMPC
celebrated the sending off of the big yellow bus for its trip to
Haiti. This bus is the third busload of much needed supplies to
leave for Haiti in recent months from our area.
A few months ago Light of Christ United Methodist Church sent two
buses completely filled with food, medical supplies, clothing, school
supplies and much more. With the help of donations our church was
able to purchase a bus from Union County Schools for $2400. This
bus is in good condition and should serve the people of Haiti with
much needed transportation.
The buses are considered "premium transportation" for
the people there. Other means of transportation are pick up trucks,
dump trucks, and anything else they can get a ride on to get where
they need to go. Because the bus has windows it allows ventilation
on hot days but also can protect the riders from the dust of the
dirty roads when closed. The buses also provide jobs for six people
from OFCB Ministries; three on each bus five days a week. One person
drives and the other two assist the riders. The money they charge
for the rides goes back to OFCB Ministries for further use for the
schools.
The Missions Committee worked closely with many organizations to
make sure the supplies we are sending on the bus are the most needed
at this time. The Engineers Without Borders organization was looking
for a safe way to send a solar system to the school to provide much
needed electricity in the school buildings. Renfrow Hardware donated
four boxes of last year's seeds that will arrive just in time for
planting season. There are pounds and pounds of beans, rice, peanut
butter, and other canned food on board. Medical supplies, school
supplies, soap, laundry detergent, clothing, shoes, tools, and more
are making their way to the Port of St. Marc for Actionnel to share
with the people of God in his country.
