Note from our Chairman

“Recent research shows that 1 in 4 families in North Carolina are caring for a loved one over 60. About 60% of these caregivers report that their health is fair to poor, and about half report clinical depression.” This information comes from the Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services. In an effort to provide assistance to seniors, adults with disabilities and family caregivers, Social Services has created two helpful and free programs which are merely a phone call away.

Just 1 Call offers help with food, transportation, medicine or simply information regarding services that may be of help to you. The service is free, confidential, easy to use and available in 140 languages. The telephone number is 704.432.1111.

The Family Caregiver Support Program provides help to those caring for a loved one at home. They offer training, temporary respite and other services which may be of assistance. The telephone number is 704.336.3150.

Pamphlets for these two services are in the narthex for those who would like further information. Or, you may contact Mecklenburg County directly at 704.353.1500.
