2011 brings a unique opportunity to SMPC. We will refurbish two 28 ft bathroom trailers for the Presbyterian Disaster Response Team.
The two trailers were initially retrofitted a few years ago to provide bathroom facilities in disaster areas. They were sent to the New Orleans area following the disaster from Hurricane Katrina. Because there is no longer a need there, the trailers will be spruced with paint and minor plumbing and interior repairs. Once complete, they will be sent to Haiti where they are desperately needed, especially now with the outbreak of Cholera. Prior to leaving Charlotte, the trailers will be filled with medical equipment, cots and, space permitting, food and clothing.
The trailers are located on SMPC's property, with the anticipated timeframe being 2 - 3 months. Those interested in helping with this hands-on project, should contact Charlie Metzler.

Loading the trailers for their final destination:
In 2010, in conjunction with the Presbytery of Charlotte, SMPC members worked to convert a trailer into an emergency medical response unit. This trailer will be used in disaster areas for evaluating and treating patients. The flexible design of the trailer is such that it can be used for other urgent needs as well.
