New Adult Lectionary Bible Study Class (begins March 7)
Sunday Mornings, Room 302, 9:30 am
Come explore scripture verses based upon the Lectionary used at SMPC. No preparation is necessary to attend. Whether you are a Biblical scholar or a novice you can enjoy this class. We will drop in on the scripture text from the eyes and ears of the first hearers as well as learn how that applies to what we can bring to the text today. Pastor's Lenten Study (February 23-March 23)

Dr. Matthew Brown will lead a 5-week study to explore what it means to follow Christ today in an uncertain world utilizing the book, Searching for Truth by Thomas Currie, Dean of the Charlotte campus of Union Presby. The Rev. Tom Tate and our own Tim Morgan will lead a class to discuss their calls as a pastor and elder to the role of leadership in public education. Tom is the pastor of Plaza Presbyterian Church in Charlotte and along with Tim serves on the Charlotte Mecklenburg School Board.

Women of the Word (February 25-April 1)
Thursday mornings, Session Room, 9:30 am
This weekly Bible study group for women engages literary works from a variety of authors in dialogue with scripture and our theological heritage. From February 25-April 1, we will study Jeremiah through the book, Run With Horses: The Quest For Life at its Best by Eugene Peterson. For a book/information contact: Rev. Food for Thought Book Group
Join us on Monday, March 29, 2010 (date change because of Maundy Thursday) when we discuss Kate Braestrup's book, Here If You Need Me: A True Story. This moving story of faith and hope tells of Braestrup's position as a minister when working for the Maine Game Warden Service.
Plan ahead for our next meeting on Thursday, May 6, when we gather to discuss L.Y. Marlow's book, Color Me Butterfly. This true story covers four generations of abuse, hurt, and pain. It displays the strength of women when they have nowhere else to turn.

Disciple
The Disciple Bible study series transforms and renews lives. Participants develop the spiritual practices of Bible reading and prayer, connect in a covenantal relationship, find a safe place to explore and test faith, discover gifts for discipleship, grow in confidence in outreach, and develop leadership skills. In the fall we will offer three Disciple Bible studies.
Disciple I Tuesdays (September - May)
Becoming Disciples through Bible is a 34-week Bible study that begins in Genesis and ends in Revelation. This study will be held on Tuesday nights from 6:30 - 8:30 pm. Kim Lee is the facilitator.
Disciple II Tuesdays (September - May)
Into the Word Into the World is a 32-week Bible study that delves deeper into the study of Genesis, Exodus, Luke and Acts. This study will be held on Tuesday nights from 6:30 - 8:30 pm. Gwen Volker and Becky Trella are the facilitators.
Invitation to the Old Testament
This is an 8-week Bible study that explores what it means to be God's covenant people, and how the story of Israel's covenant with God informs our own identity as heirs of that covenant. This study is on Tuesday mornings from 9:30 - 11:00 am Rev. Katie Harrington is the facilitator.

Invitation to the New Testament      (February 2 - March 23)   

This is an 8-week Bible study that explores the writings of the New Testament using the story of Jesus as the starting point. It looks at how the early church was shaped by the story of Jesus, learned to develop as disciples, and created communities of faith.  This study will begin February 2nd on Tuesday mornings from 9:30 - 11:00 am.  Rev. Inquirer's Class
The Membership Committee would like to invite you (especially if you're a visitor or new member)
to participate in an Inquirer's Class that will be offered  at the church. Dr. Matt Brown will lead this class, which will take a brief look at the history, beliefs, and structure of the Presbyterian Church, answer questions relating to membership, and explore how the Spirit of God uses our gifts to form community.We will serve light refreshments and childcare will be available.
